Spot on. I am sick of the nanny state and flabbergasted how the young of today just go along with it. Where has individuality gone? I refuse to live in a taupe world: taupe furnishings, taupe clothing, taupe food, taupe music.........it is as if we have been overtaken by a really rather mundane (albeit dangerous) cult.
started long before covid, though, and actual parents were doing it.
So frightened they were of the dangers of the world (thank you, media!) that it was no longer hearing 'Come home when it starts getting dark!', no, people started to totally supervise their kids - most of them with good intentions.
Playdates, only allowing kids out with adult supervision, rules and more rules. I didn't grow up in that world, and perhaps you didn't, either, but many younger people in the West did. They never grew up. And it wasn't their fault - how were they to know that this new thing was meant to keep them in a state of perpetual childhood?
Maybe it felt natural to them when the State started doing the same thing - in loco parentis - so they fell in line easily as adults.
It was an evil thing to do, but can you blame the people who followed it when they'd never known anything else?
You are absolutely correct. I had a minor rant from who knows where. This has been going on for an age, I grew up in the 60’s, my children in the 80’s and their children are at it now. I was fortunate to have freedom and I hope I passed this on to my children.
Having said that I remember the helicopter parents who were terrified and in turn terrified their children. What I do not think I quite realised at the time was that this was the norm and I was the one out of kilter.
In my humble opinion, I see children growing up far too quickly but maturing at a very slow rate indeed. And no, I cannot blame them.
